Kenya's Rift Valley lakes sit close together and differ in chemistry, which is why a short circuit through them produces such a long list. Alkaline Nakuru and Bogoria for flamingo; freshwater Naivasha and Baringo for fish eagle, heron and kingfisher.
Lake Manyara does something similar in Tanzania, compressing groundwater forest, woodland and lake shore into a few kilometres.
The best months are the wetter ones, November to April, when resident species are breeding and Palearctic migrants are present.
