The journey at a glance.
Amboseli is smaller and drier than the Mara, and it does one thing better than anywhere else in Kenya: elephants, at close range, with Kilimanjaro behind them. This route gives it a full day rather than passing through.
The park is compact enough to cover properly in a day, and the swamps in its centre hold game through the dry months when the surrounding plains have hardened. Mornings are the time to be out — the mountain is usually clear at dawn and gone into cloud by mid-morning.
This runs as a private departure with a minimum of two travellers, so the day is shaped around your pace rather than a shared group's.

Day 1Nairobi → Amboseli
South towards the mountain.
You leave Nairobi after breakfast and drive south through Kajiado towards the Tanzanian border country. Amboseli opens out flat and pale, with the mountain ahead on a clear day. You check in for lunch, then go out for an afternoon game drive around the swamps.

Day 2Amboseli
A full day with the herds.
Out early for the mountain, which is normally at its clearest before the cloud builds. The day works between the dry plains and the permanent swamps, where elephant, buffalo and hippo concentrate. There is usually time to climb Observation Hill for a view across the whole park.

One last look at the mountain.

Yes. It runs on a private vehicle with a minimum of two travellers, so you are not sharing with another party and the day is paced around you.
When is Kilimanjaro most likely to be visible?
Early morning and again around sunset. Cloud usually builds over the mountain by mid-morning, and in the wet months it can stay hidden all day.
Is the price per person?
Yes. Published rates are per person sharing a twin or double room. Solo travellers pay a single-occupancy supplement, which we quote with the rest of the trip.
What does the final price depend on?
Travel dates, the number of people travelling, your accommodation tier, park fees at the time of travel and vehicle arrangements. We reprice every enquiry for the exact dates rather than working from a fixed sheet.
Can the itinerary be changed?
